'Inky Crow', 1/2 e.v. monoprint, 20 28cm

I am a visual artist and educator, based in Scotland.

My focus lies in the overlooked and the unseen.

My work is active, deeply physical and rooted in the senses. My drawings are a blast of energy and fierce joy. I watch the crows and hang out with muscular trees. I draw in the rain.

I work primarily in charcoal and pastel, sometimes using fluid mediums of watercolour or ink, spilling over into monotype and experimental printmaking. My approach embraces spontaneity and energetic expression; I seek out the significant underlying vitality in someone or something. This is carried through in the subject but also in the materials I use, such as Tetrapak for printmaking. Increasingly, I'm working with qualities of transparency/opacity.

My workshops––for the public, art students and creative practitioners––form an extension of my artistic practice in that I share my experimental approach, encouraging people to look again, loosening their grip on intention and certainty. I work to nurture the capacity in artists to respond to life and to the particular moment; to open to possibility.

In this way, I invite you to participate, freely play, explore and see for yourself.
