'Inky Crow', 1/2 e.v. monoprint, 20 28cm
I am a visual artist and educator, based in Scotland.
My work is active, deeply physical and rooted in the senses. My drawings are a blast of energy and fierce joy. I watch the crows and hang out with muscular trees. I draw in the rain.
I work primarily in charcoal and pastel, sometimes using fluid mediums of watercolour or ink, spilling over into monotype and experimental printmaking. My approach embraces spontaneity and energetic expression; I seek out the significant underlying vitality in someone or something. Currently, I'm moving between drawing and painting, enjoying blurring the boundaries.
My workshops––for the public, art students and creative practitioners––form an extension of my artistic practice in that I share my experimental approach and encourage people to loosen their grip on intention and certainty. I work to nurture the capacity in artists to respond to life and to the particular moment; to open to possibility.
In this way, I invite you to participate, freely play, explore and see for yourself.
